“An undistinguished cabin in Maine, on a quiet cove at the end of the road—this was the special place in our lives.” So writes artist and children’s book author Nancy Patz, whose Nancy Patz Reading Fund has sponsored this first issue and provided a generous gift to help launch Yarrow & Cleat. Fifty years ago Nancy and her young family regularly visited Rum Cove, just north of Barter’s Island, and though it has been decades since Nancy’s Maine days, this area remains in her heart. From those summers, Nancy kept a trove of drawings such as the one shown here, completed in summer 1970. Thank you, Nancy, for your love of Maine, and your gracious support.
